about the podcast:
I had the idea for (Extra) Ordinary People in late 2018. I wrote down the name and kept the idea in the back of my mind because it felt natural - I’m an introvert who loves hearing what people have to say, and my friends tell me that they sometimes feel like I’m interviewing them. I wholeheartedly believe that humans need to understand each other as individuals. We need to be curious about everyone’s narratives, interests, values and lives. Sustainable communities are built through mutual empathy and understanding. Brick by brick, moment by moment, story by story.
about me:
My name is Julianne (she/her). I usually describe myself as an academic and an artist and an environmentalist, but those all feel like simplified placeholders (how do you condense an identity?). I love to hike and explore; mountains and the seaside are my two favourite places. I’m a born and raised maritime Canadian, and I’m very fond of snails and the way that they teach me to slow down. I’ll happily drink coffee or tea, but I’m a quality snob about both. I’m always reading something, but usually more like eight somethings. I once fell off of a galloping horse in New Zealand.
